SUMMARY:Youth Mental Health Matters - and What an Impactful Evening!
DESCRIPTION:Our Youth Mental Health Workshop was an incredible success! We were proud to create a safe\, welcoming\, and engaging space where young people ages 14–24 could come together to learn\, participate\, ask questions\, and have meaningful conversations about their mental and emotional well-being. \nThroughout the workshop\, youth explored important topics including what mental health means\, how stress can affect us physically and mentally\, and how to recognize and build healthy relationships. \nWhat made the evening especially impactful was seeing our youth actively participate\, share their perspectives\, connect with one another\, and gain practical knowledge they can carry into their everyday lives. \nThese conversations matter. Giving young people the language and tools to better understand their emotions\, recognize stress\, communicate effectively\, establish healthy boundaries\, and know when to reach out for support can make a lasting difference. \nAt Shining L.I.G.H.T.E Youth Charity\, we are committed to creating spaces where youth feel heard\, respected\, supported\, and empowered to prioritize their well-being. \nA huge THANK YOU to our facilitators\, volunteers\, supporters\, and\, most importantly\, every young person who showed up and participated. \nWe came together to learn\, connect\, and remind our youth of one important message: your mental health matters\, your voice matters\, and YOU matter.

DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, August 3\, 2026\, community members gathered at Ken Whillans Square at Brampton City Hall for a meaningful Emancipation Day Flag Raising — a morning dedicated to remembrance\, reflection\, culture\, freedom\, and the continued contributions of Black communities. \nPresented with the support and participation of the Black Empowerment Unit\, United Achievers\, Dewitt Lee\, Caregivers of Our Culture\, and Shining L.I.G.H.T.E Youth Charity\, the event brought together community leaders\, youth\, families\, artists\, and residents to recognize the importance of Emancipation Day and its place in our shared history. \nThe program featured an incredible group of speakers and performers\, including Honourable Justice Irvin André\, community trailblazer Angela Carter\, emerging leader Monisola Ajetunmobi\, Juno and Grammy Award-winning singer Liberty Silver\, the Neema Youth Choir & Dancers from Uganda\, MBDA Youth Choir\, and youth speakers Brianna Smith\, Jahnyah Bent\, Zarien Ward\, Yousef Muhammed\, and Craig-David Bebiem. \nThrough powerful words\, music\, dance\, youth voices\, and the raising of the Emancipation flag\, we honoured those who came before us while celebrating the strength\, resilience\, achievements\, and future of Black communities. \nWe extend our appreciation to Mayor Patrick Brown\, the City of Brampton\, our fellow community organizations\, speakers\, performers\, youth\, families\, and everyone who joined us for this important occasion. \nEmancipation Day is not only an opportunity to remember history — it is an opportunity to educate the next generation\, celebrate how far we have come\, acknowledge the work that remains\, and continue building a future rooted in equality\, opportunity\, and empowerment. \nHonouring the past.
