Shining L.I.G.H.T.E Youth Charity was proud to bring back our Access Granted – Employability Workshop, a free three-day employment readiness program created to help youth and young adults strengthen their skills, confidence, and connections as they prepare to enter the workforce.
Designed for participants ages 16–29 across the GTA, including youth, newcomers, and individuals from low-income households, Access Granted provided a supportive environment where participants could gain practical tools to overcome barriers to employment and take meaningful steps toward their career goals.
Over three impactful days, participants took part in free Food Handler certification training, resume development, interview preparation, job-search strategies, networking, and community engagement. Youth received hands-on support to strengthen their resumes, practice presenting themselves professionally, and better understand what employers are looking for.
One of the highlights of Access Granted was creating opportunities for participants to connect directly with local businesses, employers, community organizations, mentors, and employment resources. These connections helped turn the workshop from simply a learning experience into an opportunity for participants to begin building real pathways toward employment.
The success of the workshop was about more than creating resumes or earning certifications. We saw participants become more confident in speaking about their skills, asking questions, networking, and preparing themselves for their next opportunity. Participants left with stronger employment-readiness skills, new community connections, and practical resources they can continue using throughout their employment journey.
Of course, we also made sure there was time for fun, giveaways, raffle prizes, networking, and celebrating our participants!
At Shining L.I.G.H.T.E Youth Charity, we believe young people deserve more than being told to “get a job.” They deserve access to the skills, resources, mentorship, opportunities, and connections that can help them successfully enter and navigate the workforce.
